Chai Latte Smoothie

You don’t have to spend big bucks at Starbucks on a Chai Latte

A completely vegan , mostly raw smoothie that will quench your hankering for the smooth delicious flavor of chai. It is a nice treat in the afternoon, or whenever you desire the spicy goodness that this smoothie will provide.

 

This recipe is chock full of beneficial spices: Cinnamon can lower LDL cholesterol and have a regulatory effect on blood sugar. Some research shows that cinnamon has been shown to stop medication-resistant yeast infections.

 

Nutmeg is said to lower blood pressure and sooth a stomach ache. The oil of the nutmeg plant has the ability to stimulate the brain and relieve stress. It has been used to treat joint and muscle pain as it has anti-inflammatory properties.

 

Ginger has been touted for centuries as a natural remedy for a vast array of ailments. Treatment for illness and ailments such as ovarian cancer, colon cancer prevention, morning sickness and motion sickness, reduction of pain and inflammation, heartburn relief, migraine relief, relief from menstrual pain and cold and flu prevention have all been associated with the therapeutic use of ginger.

 

Ingredients:
  • ½ banana – sliced
  • 1 cup of the berries of your choice (you can do a combination of berries if you like)
  • ¼ cup of maple syrup or agave nectar
  • ½ teaspoon of raw carob powder
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg (or just a small dash)
  • A small slice of fresh ginger (to taste)
  • A dash of olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • ½ cup of almond milk or cashew milk (recipe follows)

Method:

In a powerful blender add all ingredients and blend until smooth

Recipe for Raw Almond Milk
We use almond milk in place of dairy cow’s milk. It works well in cereal, coffee and recipes that call for milk. Delicious and nutritious, almonds are low in saturated fat. They boast many nutrients that are necessary for good health such as calcium, magnesium, vitamin E and phytochemicals. These nutrients are protective to our overall health.

This recipe will make a quart of fresh almond milk and will keep well refrigerated up to 4-5 days. It is great to use in your smoothie recipes, in cereal, coffee or whenever you would drink other milks.

 

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of raw almonds (soaked overnight in purified water)
  • 4 cups of purified water
  • ¼ cup of agave nectar
  • Pinch of sea salt

 Method:

After soaking the almonds, rinse them and place them in a powerful blender. Add in the remaining ingredients blending until smooth. Filter almond milk through a nut bag to remove any chunks of almond. The almond residue can be used in other recipes that call for almond meat.

Recipe for Raw Cashew Milk

Delicious and creamy, cashew milk, like almond milk, is versatile and a great replacement for dairy milk. It can be used in healthy recipes as an alternative to cow’s milk.  Cashews are lower in overall fat content than most other nuts. Approximately 75% of the fat they do contain is unsaturated. They contain the same heart-healthy monounsaturated fat that is found in olive oil.

Preparing cashew milk and keeping it on hand will ensure that it is readily available for use. This delicious recipe makes one quart of fresh, creamy cashew milk. It will keep in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.

 

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of raw cashews (soaked for about an hour in purified water)
  • 4 cups of purified water
  • ¼ cup of agave nectar
  • Pinch of sea salt
Method:
Rinse the cashews and place them in a powerful blender with all of the remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth.
