Raw Cacao Is Good For You!

There is no reason that one cannot enjoy a chocolate shake when they do not consume dairy products. In fact, this chocolate shake is healthy! It contains very few ingredients but delivers with very big flavor.

The benefits of this shake are numerous. The base of it is almond milk. Studies have shown that eating nuts is linked to a lower risk of heart disease. Almonds are rich in monounsaturated fats. They have been shown to lower LDL cholesterol when part of a healthy diet. They contain vitamin E, magnesium and potassium.

Also health promoting in this shake is the raw cacao, which is the unprocessed form of chocolate. Raw cacao is known to be the richest natural source of magnesium. In its raw form, cacao is chock full of vitamin C. It is a great source of natural sulfur which is responsible for healthy skin, nails, hair and the proper functioning of the liver and pancreas. It contains the highest levels of antioxidants that are protective against many health ailments.

When chocolate is processed using milk and sugar, it looses all of these amazing health benefits. Stick with the raw version. In fact, it is so nutritious you should include some in your diet everyday!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of fresh almond milk*
  • 2 tablespoons of clear agave nectar or raw honey
  • 2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder
  • Several ice cubes

Method:

Add all ingredients to a powerful blender and mix until ice is crushed. There should be enough ice incorporated into the shake to make it thick and frosty.

* To prepare one liter of fresh almond milk, soak one cup of organic almonds (raw if possible) in water overnight. Drain and rinse the almonds. Put them into a powerful blender with 4 cups of pure water. Blend until the almonds are broken up.

Using a nut bag, strain the almond milk through catching the leftover almond meal and wringing out the bag to get as much of the milk squeezed out as possible.

Enjoy almond milk in this recipe and in any way you would enjoy cow’s milk. The almond meal can be used in a multitude of recipes such as the one for raw blueberry muffins found on this site!
