Green Smoothies Pack In The Nutrition

The most healthy smoothie recipes are for green smoothies. Green smoothies can provide you with a great deal of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals in a glass. You can pack in so many great fruits and veggies and the variations are endless.

I enjoy a green smoothie several times a week for breakfast. It is a filling wonder food. Not only do I pack in the 5 recommended servings of fruits and vegetables for the day in only breakfast, but I am satisfied and feel great after drinking it. I can easily fit 10-20 servings of precious fruits and vegetables every day when I include a green smoothie into my daily regime.

Unlike making juice from fruits and vegetables, smoothies retain the dietary fiber that is abundant in them. Why make a smoothie and not just eat the fruits and vegetables? When you blend the ingredients of the smoothie, you are breaking them down making them more readily digestible. You leave the “chewing” to the blender and get the nutrition more quickly.

I prefer using organic fruits and vegetables. They are more nutrient rich and spare you the pesticides that are found in conventionally grown produce.

Here are two of the green smoothie recipes that I enjoy on a regular basis. You can vary the ingredients according to your own taste.

Gingery Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 Granny Smith green apple (or apple of your liking) – cored and cut up into chunks
  • 1 ripe pear (any sort) – cored and cut up into chunks
  • 1 kiwi – cut into chunks
  • 1 half inch chunk of fresh ginger root (you can add more if you like things very gingery
  • The juice of one entire lemon
  • ½-1 cup of coconut water
  • 1 good handful of fresh, organic greens (any that you like – I prefer baby spinach or parsley)

Method:

Add all of the ingredients except greens to a powerful blender. Blend until smooth. Add greens and re-blend until smooth.
