The 5 Unhealthiest Foods you Should Avoid

Avoiding junk foods that contain unhealthy ingredients will help you stay disease free.

Obesity is rampant in the U.S. It can be difficult to avoid the offending fast foods, processed foods and refined sugars that lead to obesity because they appear in most of the packaged foods available in your local supermarket. And, you may ask, why the government would approve such foods if they are bad for us, right? Wrong. These foods are big money. But more and more research shows that these foods are what is causing increased numbers of heart disease, diabetes and even cancer. They may taste delicious, but they wreck havoc on our health.

Restaurant food is not always good for us either. It can be high in refined salt and bad fats – again leading to obesity and other health concerns.

Here is a list of 5 most unhealthy foods you should avoid:

Soda or soft drinks

Many people are fond of drinking soda. Usually they drink a can of Coca-Cola or Pepsi with every meal and as a snack. What you may not know is that each can of soda is sweetened with 10 teaspoons of sugar. A total of 6 to 12 teaspoons of sugar per day is the recommended maximum by government standards. Three cans of soda adds an additional 30 teaspoons of sugar to your diet – well above the recommended limit. Consuming a lot of soft drinks a day is not only very unhealthy, it adds lots of calories to your diet. As an alternative, drink plenty of water or herbal tea instead.

Fried foods

Deep fried food is delicious but very rich in calories and saturated fat. Most fried foods at fast food restaurants are fried in oil of poor quality which was used several times. Thus, consumption of fried food may constitute a serious threat to health because deep frying causes by-products that are carcinogenic.

Canned soups / Instant Noodles

Canned soups are processed foods. These soups are readily available at grocery stores and in supermarkets. They rarely contain vitamins but do offer up lots of artificial preservatives such as MSG (monosodium glutamate). But, luckily there are healthy organic choices that contain no MSG and less sodium.

Instant noodles are also a bad choice if you want you want to live healthily. They contain trans fats and tons of sodium.

Processed Foods

Processed meats such as pepperoni, sausage, hot dogs and bacon contain sodium nitrate, which can cause cancer. According to a study, 200,000 people over 7 years who ate hot dogs and other processed meats obtained a 67% increased risk of pancreatic cancer than those who do not eat these processed meats or their byproducts or consume them minimally.

Chips / Junk Food

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is used in a lot of foods, including snack chips. According to health experts, monosodium glutamate is linked to sudden cardiac death, especially among athletes.

Over the years, the FDA has received numerous reports of reactions to MSG. These reactions include chest pain, nausea, weakness, headache, sweating, numbness, burning, tightness and pressure to the face, tingling, rapid heartbeat and palpitations. Sounds fun, huh? To avoid these issues, avoid this junky crap! There are some healthier chip choices on the market. Be sure to check ingredient labels and be diligent about avoiding ingredients that are not healthy.
