Super Nutrition Can Be Found In a Plant-Based Diet

A plant-based diet is chock full of important nutrients.

The effect that diet can have on how you feel today and in the future is enormous. A healthy diet includes a variety of so called “superfoods” that can help you maintain your weight, fight disease and live longer. A plant-based diet primarily consists of vegetables and fruits.  There are many reasons one may choose a plant-based diet. For some it is a matter of economics: dairy and meat products can be prohibitive in cost, while basic vegetables are inexpensive and healthier for you.

A plant-based diet is the healthiest diet available. It includes eating plenty of vegetables, fruits, grains and legumes. This is a food plan that eliminates meat and animal products. In all material respects, its a vegan diet.  Some of the most nutritious plant-based foods are green leafy vegetables, which are readily available, and very nutritious, but many people do not eat enough of these foods.

Studies show consistently that people who eat a diet rich in leafy green vegetables have a much lower risk of heart disease and cancer. Raw green leafy vegetables are loaded with high amounts of chlorophyll, simply digestible enzymes, proteins, plus loads of minerals and vitamins. These vegetables particularly serve as mini-blood transfusions, health tonic for the brain and the immune system, and cleaning agents for the kidneys. Consume any of these green vegetables: spinach, swiss chard, dandelion greens, watercress, kale, parsley, endive, lettuce, chicory, mustard green, collard and broccoli.

Supplements can also be important for our nourishment. Nutritional supplements are minerals, vitamins, meal supplements, herbs, sports nutrition products, natural food supplements and other products used to increase the nutritional content of a diet. Nutritional supplements are used for many purposes. They can be added to the diet to promote overall health and energy, to give support to the immune system and reduce the risk of disease and age-related conditions, improve athletic performance and mental activity and to support the healing process during illness. However, most of these products are treated as food and not regulated as drugs are. It is important to note that these products should not be used in place of a healthy diet, but rather to supplement an already healthy regime.

We all know how important exercise is to our overall well being. But when we exercise hard, we need to support our bodies with the proper nutrition in order to sustain good health. Many nutritional supplements are intended to provide specialized support of sports nutrition. Some of them are made of protein products, like amino acid supplementation, whereas other products have nutrients that sustain energy, metabolism, and athletic performance as well as recovery.

Persons engaged in intense physical activity may increase the necessity of vitamins that are water-soluble, antioxidants and minerals, as well as chromium. Sports drinks have mixtures of electrolytes that the body will lose through sweating, as well as minerals, vitamins and performance-supporting herbs. Instead of sugary sports drinks like Gatorade, try natural electrolyte replenishment by drinking pure coconut water.

Whatever products you use, be sure that they are free of chemicals, additives and sugar. Stick to natural plant-based nutrition for optimal health.
