Staying Healthy on a Plant-Based Diet

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will help you maintain good health.

There is mounting evidence that shows the primary causes of fatality in the United States may be prevented by enhancing one’s way of life. Illness such as heart disease, lung diseases, stroke, cancer, and diabetes can be improved or avoided with the proper nutrition and lifestyle. Eating right along with staying physically active are examples of good habits that will help you stay healthy.

It is never too late to change your evil ways. Here are a number of tips for staying healthy:

  • Eat healthy – Eating the right foods as well as the right amounts of foods can help you live longer and healthier. Research has shown that many diseases such as heart disease, hypertension, cancer and diabetes can be prevented or controlled through good nutrition. Getting the nutrients you need, such as iron and calcium, and keeping your weight under control will help. Try to balance the calories you get from food with fewer calories than you expend through physical activity. Staying healthy with nutrition is vital. The best way to get the nutrients your body needs is by consuming natural foods, which generally come from plants. Foods that are as close to their natural state as possible are nutritionally balanced and healthiest for you.
  • Weight Control – Weighing too little or too much can lead to health problems. It is common for one to gain weight as we get older but this does not have to be a given. Those of us who are over 45 years old seem to have a harder time keeping off the pounds as our metabolism begins to slow. All hope is not lost, however. You can control your weight by means of eating healthy foods and being active physically. Period. Food processing depletes nutrients found naturally in whole foods. Instead of natural nutrients, these foods are loaded with excessive calories from junky ingredients and harmful chemical additives. Thus, it is suggested to consume a plant-based diet. Eating plant-based foods and limiting or eliminating refined sugar, processed foods and animal products will enable you to maintain a healthy weight.
  • Physical Activity – Research shows that physical activity can help prevent at least six diseases: hypertension, heart disease, obesity (overweight), osteoporosis, diabetes and psychiatric disorders like depression. Physical activity helps you feel healthier and maintain a fit weight. Research suggests that brisk walking can be just as good for you as an activity like jogging. Try thirty minutes of a regular physical activity like brisk walking everyday.
With the inevitable changes of the weather, it is likely that your exercise program, diet, and other daily routine are ready for a change too! Staying healthy and vibrant during seasonal changes can be difficult, colder weather can take its toll on your skin, and even your appetite making it difficult to adjust your exercise program. Staying healthy all throughout the seasons is much easier when you know how to prepare.
